About Latpanchar Northeast Birding Tour
Latpanchar is situated close to Darjeeling In the Himalayas and is the habitat of more than 200 species of avians living among chinchona, Sal, and pine trees. It is part of the Mahananda Wildlife Sanctuary and is untouched, pristine, and panoramic. Latpanchar is not only a bird haven but it is also a gateway in the Himalayas.
The birds you can see here are Rufus necked hornbill, scarlet minivet, black-naped monarch, Rufous-gorgeted flycatcher, common green magpie, fire-breasted flowerpecker, mountain scops owl, red-headed trogon, Verditer flycatcher, green backed tit, streaked spiderhunter, rusty cheeked scimitar babbler, red-bellied leiothrix, Green Tailed Sunbird, Rufus Necked Laughing Thrush, White Browed Shrike Babbler, Snowy Browed Flycatcher, Mountain Imperial Pigeon, Speckled Piculet, Mrs. Gould’s Sunbird, Barred Cuckoo Dove, Black Chinned Yuhina, Rufus Necked Laughing Thrush, Blue Whistling Thrush, Slaty Backed Forktail, Collared Falconet, Green Magpie, Himalayan Bluetail, Grey Throated Babbler, Small Niltava, Chestnut Bellied Rock Thrush, Black Winged Cuckoo Shrike, White Browed Scimitar Babbler, Rufous-necked Hornbill and many more. The list includes Palearctic migrants and resident birds.
Standard Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival at Bagdogra – Check-in at Hotel – First Birding Session
The tour begins with the arrival at Bagdogra Airport in the morning. After meeting with the group, we proceed to the hotel in Latpanchar. Upon arrival, we check in and enjoy a delicious lunch. After lunch, we head out for the first birdwatching session of the trip. We return in the evening to discuss the day’s sightings over dinner and retire for the night. Meals: Lunch, Dinner
Day 2: Birding Sessions
On the second day, we continue our birdwatching adventure in Latpanchar with the guidance of our expert guide. The guide will help us identify different bird species and also assist in capturing some great photographs of the birds in their natural habitat. We take a break for high tea and discuss the sightings of the day. In the evening, we enjoy another scrumptious dinner and rest for the night. Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Day 3: More Sessions of Birding
Day three is full of exploring another part of the sanctuary, and spotting different bird species. We take a break for lunch and tea but then continue the bird watching. After returning in the evening, we discuss the day’s findings over dinner. Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Day 4: Early Morning Birding – Check-out – Return Journey
On the final day of the trip, we wake up early for our last bird-watching session at Latpanchar. We then head back to the hotel for breakfast, followed by check-out. We then travel back to Bagdogra Airport, where guests proceed to return home. Meals: Breakfast.
